Latvian Ambassador to Georgia Edīte Medne told InterpressNews that while she cannot give an exact date, Latvia is likely to join Estonia in canceling visa-free travel for Georgian diplomatic passport holders.
“We follow our internal procedures, so I cannot name a date, but I think it will happen in a month, or it may take longer. Still, we will also join this decision,” Medne stated, emphasizing that the timing depends on internal processes.
She also highlighted the importance of EU membership for Georgia, drawing parallels with Latvia’s own experience.
“When Latvia joined the EU 21 years ago, it was after nearly a decade of hard work and reforms. The requirements were the same for us as for others, and although it wasn’t easy, we united, met all conditions, and became a member state.”
Medne encouraged Georgians to stay united and focused on EU integration:
“I urge all Georgians to come together for this goal. Today is a day of celebration and hope. EU membership changed our lives, and now Latvia is part of a safe, rules-based democratic world.”
