Heavy civilian casualties reported as Iran and Israel exchange missile strikes

Tensions between Iran and Israel have escalated dramatically, with both sides suffering significant civilian casualties following large-scale missile attacks and retaliatory airstrikes.

Israeli authorities report that 24 civilians were killed and around 500 injured after a wave of Iranian missile strikes targeted several cities, including Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Petah Tikva. The barrage, which included approximately 100 missiles, marked one of the most intense direct attacks by Iran on Israeli territory in recent history.

In response, Israel launched a series of retaliatory airstrikes across Iran, hitting key military, nuclear, and energy infrastructure. The Iranian Health Ministry confirmed at least 224 deaths, the majority believed to be civilians, with more than 1,300 people injured.

Israel’s advanced air defense systems managed to intercept a significant number of the incoming missiles, preventing even higher casualties. However, several strikes penetrated the defenses, leading to the deadly toll on the civilian population.

The Iranian death toll, as reported by the Health Ministry, likely includes both military personnel and civilians, though the exact breakdown has not been made public.

The international community has expressed deep concern over the rapid escalation and mounting civilian deaths, urging restraint to avoid a broader regional conflict.
